Senior Decision Scientist

Role Responsibility

Based in Milton Keynes, you'll partner with industry-leading experts to develop, deploy and monitor best-in-class models and statistical algorithms. Hone your analytical skills and dive into every detail of our risk decisioning to ensure each lending decision is fair to the customer and optimised for the our business. You'll own your projects from start to finish, including understanding of business needs, data extraction and manipulation, analysis, machine learning predictive modelling, presentation of the findings and monitoring of the impact.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with market-leading machine learning technologies to build best-in-class predictive models for application across the credit lifecycle
  • Utilise big data across multiple sources to enhance the relationships with our customers
  • Own our credit risk models, from inception to live
  • Exploit AI solutions to automate and improve processes
  • Build and develop capability within the organization to design, monitor and enhance credit and fraud risk models, strategies and policies
  • Provide insight into portfolio and segment trends through targeted analysis, forecasting and the development of regular MI
  • Interact with external parties such as credit reference agencies
  • Work closely with colleagues across the group to deliver projects and the change agenda
  • Mentor and manage more junior colleagues as required



The Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant degree from a reputable university/college or equivalent in technical field (e.g. statistics, mathematics, econometrics or physics)
  • Experience with SQL (ideally MS SQL Server, but other similar RDBMS are desirable, too)
  • Hands-on strong knowledge of data manipulation and modelling languages such as SAS, R, Python, SPSS or Stata
  • Understanding of the principles behind big data, machine learning, AI
  • An aptitude for getting to the bottom of a particular problem, breaking it apart and understanding it, before designing and implementing a solution
  • Highly proficient using Excel and/or other graphical analysis tools
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex ideas/insights to non-technical members of the team



  • Prior experience manipulating and working from UK Credit Reference Agency data (“bureau data”)
  • Familiarity with the UK consumer lending regulatory landscape, such as the FCA Consumer Credit Sourcebook (“CONC”)
